Details:
Supplying the Camden Town community since 1900‚ this is one of London’s most popular open-air Market Streets with a plethora of nearby stalls‚ restaurants‚ bars and clubs.
Inevitably where there are crowds of people every day‚ fast food outlets and regular delivery vehicles there will be a lot of spillages on to the road surface. One of the most important factors when paving an area like this is choosing a range of colours that help to blend in dirt and stains.
After consultation with Camden Council the colours chosen for the setts were pink-grey‚ pink-red‚ mid-grey and dark-grey all with fine picked finishes on the top surface. The sides were naturally split to improve strength when jointed and to increase coverage.
Even though the Street is pedestrianised through the working day‚ consideration needed to be given to the large lorries and vans which deliver in the mornings and evenings. For this reason the thickness chosen was a substantial 100mm. The surface element sizes are 150mm wide x 300mm long. The total area for the sett paving was around 2000m². The colour mix has worked very well‚ improving both the look and the functionality of Inverness Street. These improvements have helped towards making this part of Camden Town more attractive for those that live and work there.
