Section 15 Maintenance 152 Maintain your stone’s high- quality finish with our range of protection and care products. You’ve taken great care in choosing the perfect material for your outdoor space, so keeping your finished natural stone paving looking its best for years to come will also be a priority. When first laid, your new natural stone paving can be particularly vulnerable to stains and marks. Over time, the pores in your stone’s surface will gradually fill in with ‘good dirt’ from day to day use and exposure to the elements. This creates a natural barrier on the surface, which helps the stone’s resistance to unsightly marks and staining. Despite this protective barrier however, there are some common contaminants that will still cause staining: Choosing the right care products for your paving is vital; overly aggressive cleaning regimes can strip the stone’s natural protective layer, rendering it vulnerable again to fresh staining and marks. When using any chemical on natural stone, we recommend testing the product on an off-cut or inconspicuous section of your paving first, to ensure that you are familiar with how the product works and to double check there are no adverse effects from its use. • Greasy food from BBQs • Drinks such as red wine or coffee • Vehicle oil spills • Tyre marks • Algae, lichens and other naturally occurring stains Maintenance
