Details

This garden designed by RHS Chelsea first-timer Jilayne Rickards was designed as part of charity CAMFED’s 25th-anniversary celebrations. With this garden, they hope to draw attention to the urgent need to empower and educate young women in some of the world’s impoverished communities, and their campaign to grow 1,000 women-led agricultural businesses across Africa. Bringing rural Zimbabwe to London, the garden featured bright colours and bold plants, and presented crops and flowers common to Zimbabwe. The garden was also productive, many of the plants in the garden were edible, representing the importance horticulture has in Zimbabwe as a source of food and income. The garden also featured an outdoor learning space and biofortified crops.

For this garden, we donated our Highland Red Sandstone Rockery and Boulders, and mock builds took place both at our Castlecary Depot and our West Thurrock Depot. The garden will be rehomed at The Eden Project in Cornwall, allowing more people to learn from the garden and enjoy its beauty. The Eden Project is an educational charity. ‘Connecting us with each other and the living world, exploring how we can work towards a better future.’
