Belvoir Castle Flower & Garden Show Design & Build Competition Winner Announced
Post date: 08 Jun, 2021
CED Stone Group would like to thank all the designers who entered the Belvoir Castle Flower And Garden Show - Design A Show Garden Competition. The brief we set for the garden was 'Tranquility' and we received some fantastic entries. After much thought and discussion, we are delighted to announce the winner of the competition taking her design forward to the show is Julia Wilson of Thyme and Space Gardens with her entry, Water Lullaby
Julia is relatively new to the industry setting up her business, Thyme and Space, in March 2021 after completing the RHS Level 2 practical horticulture course at the Derbyshire Eco Centre in Wirksworth. At the heart of her business, Julia wants, through improving people's gardens, to give them the time and beautiful new space to start enjoying gardening for themselves. Julia has plans to expand her business soon to enable her to focus more on designing and delivering complete garden builds, and what better place to start practising than at The Belvoir Castle Flower And Garden Show.
Julia
tells us
'When
I received the email to say that I had been chosen to build my
design, I was absolutely over the moon. Although I am a very creative
person on paper, my real passion lies in the physical work of
transforming outdoor spaces and seeing people's reaction to this. I
am so excited to be given this opportunity to create the garden from
the image which I have in my mind, using the
quality products supplied
by CED Stone.'
The garden design was inspired by Julia's walks around the Peak District and features an exciting combination of woodland and shade-tolerant
plants and trees which are being supplied by Seagrave Nurseries. The garden will
feature a spiralling pathway laid with our cropped setts and a
stunning paddlestone plinth water feature will be the focus at the
heart of the garden.
Giles
Heap – CED Stone Group MD states,
"The standard of entries
we received was very high, and to be honest, any one of the gardens
would have looked fantastic at the show. That being said I believe
Water Lullaby was the best match to the brief. The build will be very
challenging but a huge part of putting together a show garden is
finding a way to deal with problems as they arise and I am sure that
together with her team Julia can resolve any issues and create a real
show stopper."
Julia
has five days to install her design and has put together a team of
experts to help with the build. The team so far consists of Madeleine
Jones and Kirsten Burgess, both Horticultaralists, the landscaper on
the build is Gary Ives, with Landscape Architect David Wilson providing technical advice. Constructing the water feature is stone
mason Sally Hodgson who holds the Dry Stone Walling Association’s
(DSWA) Master Craftsman Certificate, together with marine engineer
John Wilson. And of course, CED Stone's experts will be on hand to
provide help and advice throughout the build.
The
Belvoir Castle Flower and Garden Show takes place on Saturday 17th and
Sunday 18th July 2021 and is located in the Capability Brown parkland
of the beautiful Belvoir Castle. Now in its 4th year, this year's
show promises more show gardens, more exhibitors, more demos and more
talks than ever before and we are extremely excited to be part of it.
