CED Stone donated products to Butterfly Effect in Harlow, featured on BBC One’s 'DIY SOS: The Big Build
Post date: 14 Dec, 2023
The
DIY SOS team are back for another heart-warming episode on Monday 18th
of December, and CED Stone are proud to have donated a range of
products for the build, including porcelain paving, ECCOgravel
stabilisation system and gravel, and our signature products CEDEC
footpath gravel and boulders.
DIY
SOS: The Big Build is
the BBC’s flagship home renovation programme; running for more than
20 years, and in this Christmas special Nick Knowles and the team
head to Harlow, Essex, to help community project - Butterfly Effect
Well-Being, which aims to bring people together and improve mental
health.
The
project was set up by Angela Hannibal, after losing her mum to
suicide. Her mum struggled for years with mental health issues, and
after her death, Angie quit her profession as a Pharmacist to try to
help people like her mum. Together with fellow director Dawn, who
lost her brother to suicide, they run a range of groups, workshops
and classes to help people suffering with mental health struggles and
experiencing social isolation and loneliness.
Currently
operating from a portacabin, the Community Interest Company has been
gifted a disused building by the local council. Unfortunately, it is
in a state of disrepair, needing extensive internal and external
works to make it fit for purpose, which is where the DIY SOS team
come in. And, together with a few familiar faces from Walford, and an
army of volunteers, a new hub will be created, enabling the project
to offer its services to more people in need of help.
CED
were delighted to get on board with the project, and after receiving
an email to get involved to support this great cause, MD Giles Heap
and CED Stone Director of Operations, Howard White, attended the
volunteer trades day meeting.
On
looking at the fantastic design by BGR Designs and realising that we could supply
the majority of hard landscaping materials on the garden, we offered
our support.
And
with a few phone calls to friends and suppliers, Steintec, Oakio,
Stema aggregates, and EccoProducts were also in. More than happy to
help.
London
East Depot manager David Smith took the reins on this one and made
sure that all the products for the project were picked, packaged and
delivered to Cormac and the team at Conway Landscapes, on time for
them to work their magic on the seven day build.
I
can't thank our suppliers and staff enough for helping out and making
sure everything ran smoothly.
