Stone Balancing Showcase
Post date: 27 Sep, 2011
A national stone balancing showcase took place over the weekend of 10th and 11th September and we are pleased to have supplied various stone for this event.
The weekend’s event was a UK first and was a mix of exhibitions, demonstrations, workshops, fun competitions and community stone balancing activities at the National Stone Centre’s stunning site, near Matlock in the glorious Peak District.
Ian Thomas from the National Stone Centre visited our Nottingham depot at the beginning of September and found just what he was looking for……….stone, stone and more stone. He was keen to select a wide variety, this included; rainbow cobbles, highland cobbles, coppice green rockery, weathered limestone rockery, meadowgrass marble rockery, 2 large boulders weighing approx three quarters of a tonne each and a selection of Scottish beach cobbles and slate chippings.
The art of stone balancing is to create the seemingly impossible by balancing stones on top of each other in arrangements that appear to defy gravity.
Ian Thomas got in touch after the event and said “Many thanks indeed for the supply of stones. The event, which formed part of the regionally significant Wirksworth Festival, proved to be very popular and stimulated great interest, including several enquiries asking where one could buy such stone.”
